Day 8 - Puerto Quetzal

We were up and on the bus at 8:30am this morning. We were surprised to see that the port was a regular old work port with container ships and cargo ships. Not a tourist port at all. We headed to Antigua which was about 90 minutes away. We saw lots of sugar cane fields along the way. We were headed to a altitude of around 5000 feet. We saw 3 active volcanoes and a road that had been wiped out by the mud slides and heavy rains. Higher in the mountains we saw coffee plantations and the Jade museum. We saw several old Churches and the Central market places. We did not have enough time in the jade museum to really look around but I did find a Mayan death mask I wanted made out of jade. The only problem was they wanted $850 for it and that was a little out of my price range, but it was really cool looking. We made it back to the ship and set sail again around 5pm. Over the last 4 days several people have left the ship by ambulance. Now of them were serious, but it is a strange site to see. We are at sea all day tomorrow and look forward to a day of rest.
